Renatus Harris heeft in 1676 een nieuw mechanisch sleepladen-orgel gebouwd voor de kathedraal van Newcastle. Het instrument stond op de scheiding van koor en schip van de kerk en had twee fronten. In 1749 werd het verbouwd door John Snetzler. T.C. Lewis verplaatste het orgel in 1882 naar het noordertransept. Het oude oost-front breidde hij uit met twee zijtorens. Het oude west-front bleef gehandhaafd, en keek nu naar de Saint George’s-kapel. In feite bouwde Lewis een nieuw binnenwerk met ouder materiaal. Harrison & Harrison plaatsten in 1911 een nieuwe speeltafel en in 1981 heeft Nicholson & Co. het Lewis-orgel aangesloten op het koororgel.
Het instrument heeft nu 94 (91) stemmen, vier manualen en een vrij pedaal.
